The Review – Saje Optimistic Oval Aromatherapy Necklace

A friend of mine from work was once wearing a beautiful sterling silver necklace from Saje, and explained to me how it could carry a little bit of essential oil to provide her with whatever she needed throughout the day. I was fascinated, and insanely jealous, and so had to have one. Luckily, I received a 50% coupon with a Saje purchase over Christmas so I went out and picked myself up an Optimistic Oval. It is a gorgeous, filigreed sterling silver egg which could hold the key to my relaxation. Or at least, help a little.

The Review – Trader Joe’s Coconut Green Tea

Disclaimer: This tea is not available in Canada. So just a heads up before you fall in love with it, you have been warned!

I have never stepped foot into a Trader Joe’s, but I would sure like to. I first heard about Trader Joe’s through the magic of trashy celebrity magazines. Anyone who is anyone has been photographed in a Trader Joe’s parking lot, Starbucks in hand. The few times I’ve made trips to the United States, I somehow never fulfilled my dream to do that very same thing (minus the paparazzi). However, a good friend was a much smarter traveller and made time to check out this amazing place. She kindly gifted me this tin of Trader Joe’s Coconut Green Tea.

Dolce Vita, Four Ways

When I find a colour that speaks to me, my first instinct is to collect it in every possible form. I experienced this hoarding feeling with NARS Dolce Vita. It is a beautiful and versatile dusty rose, an instant classic for me. No matter the time of year (aka if I am starkly pale or slightly tanned) it works beautifully on my lips and cheeks.

Note: NARS is a cruelty-free brand, however they are owned by Shiseido, which DOES do animal testing for their own products.

The Blush ($38 CAD). I’ve mentioned my love for NARS’ blush before and hands down, Dolce Vita is my favourite of them. They last and last but never upset my skin. The Dolce Vita blush is a gorgeous rose that suits me throughout the year.

The Lipstick ($35 CAD). This is my ultimate MLBB (my-lips-but-better) shade. It is a gorgeous sheer but build able rose shade that gives me a great make-up free/light look but still put together.

The Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($33 CAD). I think if I ever finish a lip product (jk, no way) it will be this one. It is my go-to lip colour and formulation for every day easy use. It applies creamily but is instantly matte, yet somehow, never drying. I imagine this is what Bite Beauty’s Matte Creme Lip Crayons are like.

Sheer lipstick, matte lip pencil, blush heavy and light

The Lip Gloss ($33 CAD). This is sadly not pictured, as it had gone south some months back. NARS lip glosses provide great colour pay off, and Dolce Vita is no exception (trust me!). The gorgeous dusty rose with shine and a hit of moisture is basically the only thing you need for a fresh spring look.

Do you have any ride-or-die colours from NARS or other brands?

ShopLocal – Merrickville Shopping

For those of you not in the know, Merrickville is a cute little village about 45 minutes outside Ottawa. It is a picturesque spot found along the Rideau canal, which means it is a really happening place in the summer (aka boating) months. However, even in the bleak winter, there is always something exciting going on. One of my favourite things to do is some weekend shopping along their main drag, St. Lawrence Street. Merrickville boasts a collection of unique shops with something for everyone. The below list is just a few of my most loved places to check in when I am visiting.

Wick Witch Candle Company This shop specializes in 100% soy wax candles with uniquely beautiful scents but they also offer bath and body products that make perfect gifts for friends or yourself. I am a complete convert to their candles, which last for ages and provide the perfect amount of fragrance. Their store is delightful and definitely a must-visit when you are in Merrickville. Their spring/summer line is launching soon and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Check it out on Facebook / Instagram / Twitter / Etsy

Bullets & Bones Nikki Phillips is the woman behind Bullets and Bones’ “handcrafted jewellery inspired by nature”. Located in the same building as Wick Witch, you need to stop in and see the rustic chic jewellery created by Nikki. She also stocks other local jewellery, and does great collaborations with local artists. If you want to #shoplocal, start here. I have my eye on one of the love knot rings next! Check it out on Facebook / Instagram / Etsy

1890 Just off St. Lawrence Street, you can find 1890, Artisan Gifts and Floral Design. I love me any boutique mixed in with flowers, it makes for a heavenly smelling shopping experience. 1890 has a great selection of amazing handmade items like bath bombs, soaps, candles, bubble bath powder.. the possibilities are endless. If you are looking for a treat for someone special, or some natural bath products for yourself, I highly recommend you give 1890 a visit. I for one will be heading in soon to pick up some bath bombs and air plants! Check it out on Facebook / Instagram / Twitter

Mrs McGarrigles Hands down one of my favourite stops in Merrickville, Mrs McGarrigles has everything you could ever want. From fine food stuffs to home décor, I can’t ever leave without purchasing something. It is one of the few places in the Ottawa area where you can pick up authentic British chips, chocolates and condiments. Curly Wurly’s for the win! And if you like mustard, Mrs McGarrigles offers an array of handmade flavours that will suit any meal. I love to do my Christmas shopping here and just general treat-yo-self buys are a must. Check it out on Facebook / Twitter

I hope you can make a trek out to Merrickville soon, it is definitely worth the gas money!
